When you call your ex cell mate, it won't end well.

Excellent summary, I agree with your friend especially on the point about Jim asking for exactly the amount needed for the pub. As usual, the writers hit us over the head with the clauses (Jim is really a great guy, who is only doing this because he desperately wants to make Liz happy - BUT he won't take one red cent more than he absolutely needs, so he won't!) Unlike your pal however, I have no misgivings about his departure, or Liz' for that matter. This on again off again relationship between them has entirely run its course repeatedly too. I can take the characters seperately but together they just irritate me.
Excellent! I would also add that how come nobody heard the police sirens wailing in the distance warning us that they were coming? Jim opened the bank door and there they were, sirens blasting. It's not as if they just turned them on! I too wondered why he didn't have his face covered and that bit about waiting for the mother and baby to come back out was another typical but stupid Jim move.
Ah well, I always knew it was going to be a disaster. He might be a convicted self confessed murderer but even that was an accident. His temper and protective daddy emotion over Steve's beating is what sent him to Jez Quigley to beat the crap out of him and even then, he was alive when Jim stopped. He only died of his injuries later in hospital when he staggered to Steve's bed to try to kill him again. Probably would have been ok if he'd stayed put!
