Sunday Canadian Corrie Comments, June 22

Rita and Dennis' wedding is coming soon! Tina is her bridesmaid, Norris is jealous and stirring the pot.

Nick was a really good brother to David for a change and Kylie's back. David is chuffed but Eva got the wrong end of the stick and thought Nick and Kylie were having a fling. So did David. He's lucky that didn't drive Kylie right back out the door for not trusting her but given her track record, though she hasn't cheated, it wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility for her to take her revenge that way. Eva added to her misery by listening to sad songs and adding two and two up and making five. It was all circumstantial evidence. When she blew it all up in the Bistro, David tried to wreck Nick's car and Nick threw Eva out and finished with her altogether. Can't blame him, if only for the stunt she pulled with the hotpot alone!

But come on, Eva thinks she can win Nick back after that stunt and why was she surprised he dumped her? It was all for nothing too, David and Kylie made up but only after he did a job on Nick's fancy car, conveniently parked right outside instead of around the corner by his flat, and Nick washed his hands of Eva. I would have too the stupid cow. But just the same, Eva as a character is growing on me. She's impulsive but she's got good Corrie personality too and the actress is great! Audrey and Gail were 100% ready to believe the worst of Kylie of course and did you see their faces when they realizxed that David and Kylie made up? Audrey has made up with David and he's signing the salon back to her and he even got his job back! Isn't nepotism wonderful?

I did laugh when Eva came to work with a plunging neckline and Nick and Lewis' jaws hit the floor. They then looked at each other. "Nothing!!!" Now David and Kylie think they can get a mortage because they both have jobs. No down payment, mind you, and making bare minimum wages. Now that he doesn't have his name on the deed of the salon anymore, how on earth would a bank agree they can get a mortgage?

Leanne is locking horns with Peter now. And since they were far too antagonistic and unreasonable in front of the judge it's going to escalate into meetings and evaluations. They can't agree so someone else will decide for them. Peter interrupting in court and showing himself up a lot more than Leanne, he was baiting her and it showed. Bicker, Bitch, Stab, Insult, it's all very realistic isn't it? Ken tries his hand at mediating but that's only putting Peter even more on the defensive. I think they're both as bad as each other but i do think Peter has the edge in obnoxious. Leanne can stand up to him very well, though. She's not a Battersby for nothing!

Carla figured she could offer Leanne money as an advance on her divorce settlement and that sure blew up in Peter's face when Leanne took great pleasure in telling the court officer about it.

Tina wants everything to get back to normal. Too bad Tommy is lying to her about Rick and now Rick is intent on getting his pound of flesh and is making Tommy deliver drugs hidden in cars for him to work off the debt. *bang bang bang* that's me whacking my head against the wall. I HATE THIS STORYLINE!!!

Tyrone arranged a surprise birthday party for Kirsty and as bad as that was to a woman who doesn't do suprises well, inviting her parents really sent her over the edge. Some people say they don't like surprise parties but really do. How was he to know? But meeting her father, we can now get a better idea why she's got control issues. He's a bit of a hard case, isn't he? I'm interested to know more about her background now. It goes a ways to explaining why she's the way she is, don't you think? You might think that loading those surprises on Dad would be the reason he was off with her but not all fathers would have reacted that way or would at least have recovered and be thrilled. But those are the ones that have a good relationship with their kids to start with. Kirsty's been avoiding her parents, hadn't told them about the boyfriend, the job or the baby. Ooops! And in her frustration, anger and embarassment she turned on Tyrone violently.

Tyrone's mother probably abused him, she certainly neglected him. Will he be willing to put up with this in order to keep the woman he loves and have the family he's always wanted? Kirsty keeps spinning stories about a sad past. I'm not quite sure i believe her excuses though her history about her dad does ring true. It's clear she could use some councilling. She most certainly has problems with control and losing it. Tyrone wouldn't let her go. I kind of think he should have.

Sunita is starting to pull unknown friends out of the hat to make excuses to see Karl. I wonder if Dev is starting to be suspicious? Dev has decided yet again to do whatever the hell he wants and invites Stella and Karl to a meal on short notice, never mind how much work it means for Sunita because he won't raise a finger. Karl tried to get out of it but no dice. Well to be fair, even though his excuse was a lie, I can't stand Dev either! In the end, that dinner party was excruciatingly sick making.

Karl and Stella had their romantic meal in the downstairs sitting room and Sunita kept making excuses to interrup. Obvious Woman! Whatever happened to that living area upstairs where Steve and Becky used to live? It appeared in the Rovers out of nowhere and it seems to have disappeared again or why would you have a romantic meal where you could be interrupted? Karl seems to have realized what he was at risk of losing but will he be able to stay away from temptation? It didn't take much, did it? Her cleavage plunged almost as low as Eva's and he was again putty in her hands. When did Sunita turn into such a slag? And how does nobody notice the two of them slobbering all over each other?

They almost got caught when Dev decided to show Kevin the flat. So he thinks the flats he's seen were too small but the shop flat isn't? It always was pretty pokey in the past. Has it got elastic walls like all the other houses? Well it's probably too small for Kevin but Sophie found Karl's wallet in the sofa and she knows he lied and said it was in the shop! Sunita probably made things worse by trying to "explain" She said she showed Karl the flat "a few weeks back". He didn't have his wallet all that time? Not likely! Add to that she heard them canoodling in the ginnel. Busted and no amount of lies is really going to help is it? She's good at minding her own business but she did try to nudge Dev into paying more attention to his wife. Didn't work. Sunita pulled another unheard of friend out of her handbag.

Maria's gorgeous date was just trying to make his ex jealous, an ex who looked a lot like Maria. The next gorgeous date was gay and fancied Marcus! Nice little scene between Audrey and Eileen, two characters you don't usually see interact. Rita is picking out wedding invitations, 2 weeks before the date of the wedding!!! Audrey and Lewis are staying in Weatherfield after all. Marcus is keen to help fix up Maria but I think Sean is right to feel a little neglected.
This week, Paul buried his wife and Eileen ended up going to the funeral. He showed up wanting her to go and she did in the end, even after Carla ordered her not to leave. I do think Eileen got a few good digs in at Lesley's sister. I did wonder why there was none of her family ever around helping out. Well Eileen isn't selling the house now and Paul's moving in. Sean was worried he'd get the boot but Paul says ok so Eileen says ok. But Eileen lost her job because she ducked out to the funeral. That's ok though, Steve has given her the job back in the taxi office where she belongs!

Stella should know better that the hotpot takes more than an hour to create. She'd have watched Betty do it time enough. So why be so unreasonable to make Sean do it? And why did she not give him more notice? Because it's a contrived frigging storyline to shove Stella down our throats and to make Sean get pissed off and quit, (I'm glad he did, though, she was bang out of order!) launching another stupid storyline where the hotpot resides now in the Bistro so that Eva could put peppers in it and .. well you know the rest. Everyone else thinks Sean was wrong to take the recipe out of the Rovers too and it's obvious Sean and Stella will make up eventually and the Rovers will again be serving it's legendary hotpot.

Norris doused Faye with water from his watering can. Yes it was his fault, she might not have looked up but he wasn't looking down either. Oik. Turns out she was the one that stole all the flowers but not because of Norris, because she wanted to raise some money for her always-broke mother.

This coming week we're seeing the Jubilee street party where most residents are (sneak preview) dressing up as pop stars from the last 60 years and we have Dennis and Rita's wedding which, as weddings usually do, isn't going to be smooth sailing.

Saw Toyah Batterby (Georgia Taylor) tonight on PBS Mystery, Inspector Lewis, episode "Fearful Symmetry" Hadn't seen her except in the History Boys film since her days on the street. She was so adult in Mystery that I has to check the cast list to be sure it was her.

I don't know which storyline I hate the most - Tommy's or Karl and Sunita. Please be over soon!

Tommy's will be over this week but we'll have to suffer Karlita awhile longer.

Thank heavens for one small mercy anyway.
I actually gagged watching Karl and Sunita - hopefully all that groping, clutching and cleavaging will be done soon.
I still don't like Eva - shallow is almost a compliment!
And why oh why to so many street characters charge on in full fury mode when they really haven't checked the facts. Good telly?
Paul and Eileen - hmmmmmmm. A break might be nice.
