Sunday Comments - July 28

The drugs raid was actually quite funny. The ambitious reporter was winding everyone up, Mary was musing about what could have been and then off to spread the gossip to Norris before anyone else did. David was watching it all unfold and playing Leanne and Nick off against each other and Kylie was strutting around righteously because she knows drugs. She does. And there aren't any in the Bistro. David did a very good job because the night ended as a disaster.

We started the next episode at the end of the day, at teatime. But I thought there wasn't a story in the Gazette, Kylie said so, but then there was. It's not as if there is a morning and an afternoon edition, or is there? David is gleeful. Of course Leanne isn't going to be happy with that lame "I'm sorry" Nick gave her. If he'd told her the whole thing that he said to Kylie, she might have been. He's an idiot. But they made up so David's next move is to water down the booze at the Bistro.

I don't think it's fair that Owen is bullying Tim and Tim is also right about Anna babying Faye but then, as Anna said, Faye's emotional development was arrested due to her childhood. I do like that Sally is sticking up for Tim and she's talking sense. If Tim leaves it will be another damaging blow to Faye, won't it?

Eileen did go to the councilling session and then was teased unmercifully in the pub and supported by Peter and, eventually, Paul who's clueless as usual.  Looks like Paul got into trouble over harassing some kids that were throwing rocks at the firemen. Isn't that always the way? You get provoked but you're not supposed to kick back and when you do, you're the one that gets in trouble for it. Similar things happen when a homeowner attacks a burglar and the homeowner gets arrested for assault.

Paul's under investigation and he's back into self-absorbed mode again. Lloyd and Mandy are at odds over Jenna. Ok, Paul's allowed to be angry and stressed about his situation. Mandy is allowed to be disappointed that Jenna threw away her career and Lloyd is caught in the middle. That's what led to a big blow up over a throwaway remark that Paul came out with in the pub that Lloyd felt was racist. So did everyone else apparently.

And Paul? He realized it was the wrong thing to say so why didn't he just say those two little words, I'm Sorry. That would have put an end to it before everyone else got into the mix but of course, then, there wouldn't have been a storyline.

Paul's Pride is not a good thing and Eileen is stuck in the middle. Yes, he should apologize, first at least. If he does, Lloyd will probably apologize for calling him a racist.

Lloyd has accused Paul of being a racist and now, Paul won't back down and neither will Lloyd. Paul should have apologized and then Lloyd would have too. Both sides dug their heels in and it's all escalated. Lloyd expects an apology and he should get it but then Lloyd should apologize to Paul and yes, Paul's apology comes first.

Chesney tried to tell Katy, he did. She didn't believe it but it's sowed the seed and Kirk and Beth confirmed it. She found messages on his phone but he lied about that, too.  Now she's firmly in denial but the damage has been done. These two as a couple are pretty much done. Ryan is spineless and Katy is gormless, Chesney is spiteful and Sinead is a fool.

Sinead and Chesney are all cute and couple-y but he is still very aware of Katy and any mention of her. And when Sinead suggested they go upstairs, he looked like a deer caught in the headlights. He won't go upstairs because he's not in love with her and he won't admit it, but no, he's not over Katy and seeing her and Ryan rowing, he couldn't stay out of it when it really wasn't any of his business.

Katy is suspicious and so she should be and the bickering begins. Then she's slinking around stalking Ryan trying to catch him in his lies. Shouldn't be very difficult. She pushed and provoked and he came out with it. He didn't want the whole family package and Chesney saw them rowing outside. Owen was quite happy to say I Told You So. Katy's moved into the overcrowded Windass house. Why doesn't Owen let her use the flat now that Ryan's not involved? Michelle gets to run ragged over Ryan, too.

Katy made a beeline back to Chesney now that she's left Ryan. Well she's been saying she'd made a mistake all along and she only went to Ryan because Chesney wouldn't have her back. He still won't and he's decided to make it up with Sinead. I like her but I don't think she's suited to Chesney, not least because he is only using her anyway.

Carla is not ignoring her investment in the bookies and Peter's not comfortable with it. And now it seems like the business isn't doing that well after all. Was picking up when Rob was there, did Peter not keep up whatever he was doing? Why is Rob's job as a bailiff breaking his parole conditions? Is he working for the local loan shark? Now the gruesome twosome are thinking about launching a business, they called a cash converter. That's just a fancy word for pawn broker.

Peter's scrambling to try to keep the business afloat and Carla thinks it's on it's last legs and is worried how it will affect Peter. The bookies is teetering but Underworld is booming it seems. Rob is having a great time yanking Peter's chain. Deirdre knows what Rob is doing for work doesn't she? I'm surprised the news didn't filter through to Peter. Peter is egging people on to make bigger bets, and the odds were that he'd lose out because Steve won big. Well if the punters are coming in and spending their money, why doesn't Peter have more cash in the safe? Carla wasn't happy to find out about the win.  Meanwhile, Tracy is discouraged with her job. Well, you would.

And there's the excuse for Ken's absence, Adam his grandson is ill and he's gone off to be with him. In Canada. Who said we wanted either of them here? And when did Adam move to Canada anyway? Why didn't they just say Portsmouth where he was the last time we heard of him? Emily is signing over her house. Norris looks chuffed. I really think he's going to get a big surprise. Gloria is part Cherokee, related to someone from a Buffalo Bill show. Ah, and Deirdre has said there's a new doctor in the clinic, not a patch on Dr. Carter. Probably because she's a middle aged woman, not a hunky young fella!

Roy's doing yoga at 6 a.m.and is throwing himself into relaxation full steam. But all is not well in Cropper Towers. Hayley has had to go back to discuss her test results. Has anyone else got a bad feeling?

The racism storyline seems forced and unnatural to the characters involved. Then you get Lloyd calling fat Brenda, 'Fat Brenda' as if fat is her first name.
